Breast Capsular Contracture Before and After Photos
One of the most common complications of breast augmentation surgery is capsular contracture. This occurs when the body’s natural healing response forms a scar capsule around the implant that tightness and may result in a firm/hard feeling breast with a shape change.
Capsular contracture can cause pain, discomfort, and changes in breast appearance. The severity can vary, with some experiencing minimal changes and others having significant distortion.
There are four grades of capsular contracture:
- Grade 1: The breast is typically soft and looks natural
- Grade 2: The breast is slightly firm, but looks normal
- Grade 3: The breast is firm and looks abnormal
- Grade 4: The breast is hard, painful and looks abnormal
Treatment typically involves surgical removal of the capsule and implant. In some cases, replacement implants and additional materials may be used. This surgery can restore a more natural look and feel to the breasts.
The following images show our examples of all grades and our patient’s journey through capsular contracture surgeries performed with before and after photos of implant removal and the capsules themselves. Capsules will present differently in each patient. These photos represent the capsules removed from these particular patient.
